Jo Melvin, Luke Skrebowski and Jon Wood will be in conversation at Waddington Custot Galleries on the occasion of the exhibition 'Barry Flanagan: Animal, Vegetable, Mineral'. They will be discussing Flanagan's sculptural legacy and central position within British Conceptual Art.

Jo Melvin is a curator, writer and Reader in Archives and Special Collections at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, London, and Senior Research Fellow at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds. Recent projects include ‘Christine Kozlov: Information No Theory’ at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds; ‘Five Issues of Studio International’ Raven Row, London; ‘Palindromes: Barry Flanagan and John Latham’ at Flat Time House, London and ‘The Xerox Book’ Paula Cooper Gallery, New York. Recent catalogue essays include ‘Seth Siegelaub: Beyond Conceptualism’, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and ‘Conceptual Art in Britain 1964–1979’, Tate Britain, London. She is currently working on a monograph on Noel Forster, The Seth Siegelaub Source Book(König, late 2016) and on Barry Flanagan’s catalogue raisonné (Modern Art Press, 2018).
Luke Skrebowski is a Fellow and Director of Studies in History of Art at Churchill College, University of Cambridge. Skrebowski’s research and teaching focus on the history and theory of late modern and contemporary art with a focus on Conceptual art and its legacies. He is currently completing a book entitled The Politics of Anti-Aesthetics: Contesting Conceptual Art and is co-editor of Aesthetics and Contemporary Art, (Sternberg Press, 2011). His writing has appeared in journals including Art History, Grey Room,Manifesta Journal, Tate Papers,Third Text, as well as in numerous anthologies and exhibition catalogues including a recent essay on Conceptual art and photography for the Tate exhibition ‘Conceptual Art in Britain 1964–79’.
Jon Wood is Research Curator at the Henry Moore Institute (HMI) in Leeds where he coordinates the academic research programme and curates exhibitions. He specialises in twentieth-century and contemporary sculpture, with a particular and ongoing research interest in the artist’s studio. His writings have been included in The Studio Reader(University of Chicago Press, 2010) and The Studio(MIT/Whitechapel, 2012). He is the HMI editor of the ‘Subject / Object’ series and one of the editors of Sculpture in Twentieth-Century Britain (2003). Recent publications include: Modern Sculpture Reader (with Alex Potts and David Hulks) (HMI 2007, and Getty 2012), United Enemies: The Problem of Sculpture in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s (2011), a new edition of Ede’s Savage Messiah (with Barassi and Silber) (2011) and Articulate Objects: Voice, Sculpture, and Performance (with Aura Satz) (2009).
