Waddington Custot supports students to visit Frieze Masters

Waddington Custot's stand this year, titled Schools of London, focusses on the importance of the art school environment to the exchange of ideas between artists, and the gallery is supporting student access to Frieze Masters this year, as an extension to Frieze’s existing educational outreach. 

The first fifty art students who visit the gallery at 11 Cork Street, London will receive, on presentation of their student card, a one-entry pass to Frieze Masters valid any day from Friday 4 October – Sunday 6 October, to experience exhibits representing thousands of years of art, from antiquity to the 20th century. 

Schools of London brings together a curated selection of painting and sculpture by artists connected by their involvement in London art school system from the 1960s-2000, both as students and returning as teachers. The exhibition maps the significant influence of the art school network on certain moments in art history, such as the development of British Pop at the Royal College, the new definitions of sculpture emerging at St Martin’s under Anthony Caro, and the coming together of the yBas at Goldsmith’s under Michael Craig-Martin. 

At a time when art school funding and the inclusion of the arts in the national curriculum are increasingly under threat, Waddington Custot’s thematic presentation highlights the enduring impact of London’s art schools, whilst acknowledging the broad range of influential university and colleges through the United Kingdom and internationally.
