In preparation for her museum retrospective at Musee Granet, Verdier created a new body of work around Mont Sainte-Victoire, the landscape surrounding the museum buildings, immortalised by Cézanne.
A concurrent display at the Musée du Pavillon de Vendôme set out to portray the artist’s creative process, displaying—among drawings and gouache works inspired by Mont Sainte-Victoire—the brushes Verdier makes and uses, her atelier nomade, or “nomadic workshop” that allowed her to work outside in nature, and a film exploring the complexities of her artistic process.
Verdier’s retrospective at Musée Granet explored various aspects of her expansive practice spanning four decades to present day, culminating in a new body of large-scale paintings focussed on the natural landscape around the museum. It presented six major themes within the artist’s work, revealing the evolution, depth and variety of her practice.
Verdier’s continued engagement with the natural world emerges as a consistent focus, and this ongoing engagement encompasses wide-ranging natural phenomena, from geology to gravity, energy and matter.
