New Centre Pompidou x West Bund Museum launches in Shanghai
The "Centre Pompidou × West Bund Museum Project" opened in Shanghai on 5 November 2019, and is a major project for cultural and artistic exchanges between France and China.
The opening show, The Shape of Time, includes the work of Zao Wou-Ki; his work is represented by seven works exhibited across a number of rooms in the new David Chipperfield-designed museum.
Included in the exhibition is Zao Wou-Ki's large-scale painting 04.05.64 (200 x 260 cm), which was donated to the French State by the artist in recognition of his naturalization in 1964.
Further artists included in the opening exhibition include Lucio Fontana, Hans Hartung, Pierre Soulages, Sam Francis, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, and Japanese artist Kazuo Shiraga.
