‘Vortex’ selected for Publication Award final
Waddington Custot’s Fabienne Verdier ‘Vortex’ catalogue, published on the occasion of the artist's October 2020 solo exhibition, has been finalised for the inaugural Mayfair Gallery Publication Award.
The nominated publications have been reviewed by a panel of judges including: curator, critic and author Hettie Judah; the RA Magazine’s editor Sam Phillips; and Apollo Magazine’s editor Thomas Marks.
The judges have selected four finalists, including: ‘Before or After, at the Same Time: Rome, Milan, and Fabio Mauri, 1948–1968’, published by Hauser & Wirth; ‘Fabienne Verdier: Vortex’, published by Waddington Custot; ‘Giulia Andreani’, published by Galerie Max Hetzler; and ‘Ugo Mulas: Creative Intersections’, published by Robilant + Voena.
The winning publication will be annouced over a live webinar on Friday 20 November, which you can register for at the link below. Two of the judges, Hettie Judah and Thomas Marks will join Mayfair Art Weekend Project Manager, Cherie Silver, to discuss the catalogues and the subsequent winning publication. Waddington Custot's Louise Malcolm, editor of 'Vortex', will also join the discussion for a Q&A alongside the other three finalists.
‘Vortex’, which can be purchased on our website via the link below, includes an engaging new text by Wells Fray-Smith (Whitechapel Gallery), alongside contributions from Professor Simon Shaw-Miller (University of Bristol) and a conversation between Verdier and writer Ellen Mara De Wachter, which delves deeper into the metaphysical aspects of the artist’s work. Together with drawings and extracts from Verdier’s notebooks, alongside numerous vivid illustrations, this publication offers an immersive experience of the artist’s work and establishes her invaluable contribution to contemporary thought and painting.
