World’s First Pop Art Supercar, designed by Peter Blake, set to be auctioned
Peter Blake's collaboration on a unique Bentley car has become the subject of attention due to a forthcoming auction at Bonhams.
Blake was commissioned to design the car by the hospice charity Care2Save in 2016. The Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible is designed in a quintessentially 'Peter Blake' style, with his trademark use of primary colours and a hand painted St James heart on the hood. Blake put together a playlist of songs to be played in the car on the road.
He said: 'I wanted the car to be bright and bold, keeping the design as simple as possible, so that the beautiful lines of the car could speak for themselves, but also create a design that reflected the motifs and patterns that I have used in my work throughout my career.'
Blake is one of the leading figures in British Pop Art and has been represented by Waddington Custot since the 1960s. He celebrates his 90th birthday this year.
