An immersive collaborative work by Kenia Almaraz Murillo

Installation at UGC Issy-les-Moulineaux is one of the largest art commissions for a cinema

For its major cinema space in Issy-les-Moulineaux, UGC invited artists Kenia Almaraz Murillo and Elliott Causse to carry out one of the largest artistic commissions carried out in a cinema.

For the UGC Issy-les-Moulineaux, designed by architect Jean-Marc Lalo, the two artists designed 'Abysses', an immersive work that accompanies the viewer as they travel through the cinema, over a surface area of over 1,700 m2. This is the artists' second artistic intervention for UGC, and on this occasion, they changed scale and multiplied their artistic forms in a language inspired by the architecture of the new cinema.

With 'Abysses', Kenia Almaraz Murillo and Elliott Causse created a total work that accompanies spectators from the street in their descent towards the dark rooms, then in their ascent towards the light of the city. Winding through the building in incredible dimensions, Kenia’s vibrant palatte, inspired by the graphic and geometric elements of Andean textiles, works seamlessly with the urban structure of Elliott’s channelled networks. The result is a composition not unlike an electrical circuit, which the artists have intended to create a path of artistic energy through the building for the visitors.
